H. E. Beale Scotch Heather. Calluna vulgaris 'H. E. Beale'. This is the true Scotch Heather. The true Scotch Heather is a magnificent plant, low-growing and dense, creating a weed-choking mat of deep green foliage that remains attractive from spring till frost and blooms profusely over a long, late season. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, 'H. E. Beale' is a necessity for gardens where abundant color and minimal upkeep are prized.
From midsummer through mid-fall, this plant covers itself in fully double blooms of silvery-pink, crowded along slender, upright stems. Very eye-catching, they add a misty cloud of soft color that lasts for many weeks. The plant is quite adaptable and easy to grow. Left alone by deer and content even in salt spray, it prefers sandy or loamy soils and needs consistent moisture, but is quite tolerant of less-than-ideal conditions. All it asks is an annual pruning to keep the blooms coming profusely. Mature Height: 12-18" Width: 24". Zones 4-9.
